#SelfCareSaturday – Hair Rinses with Moody Teas!

Moody Teas Black Tea Hair Rinse

Sometimes we don’t have a ton of energy for self care, and these super easy rinses are the perfect fix for dull hair when you just don’t have the energy for a full on routine. Different teas have different benefits, so depending on your hair you can mix and match options below to find the perfect rinse for your hair!

To make a rinse:

For any rinse, you want a concentrated tea. Bring 2 cups of water to a boil, and add 4 teaspoons of whatever tea you’ve chosen. The most important part of making a rinse is to let it cool, and leave the tea in the mix the whole time. This way you won’t burn your scalp, and the water can soak in all the benefits from the leaves. Once it’s cool, it’s pretty self explanatory – rinse your hair and scalp! Leave on for anywhere between 5 minutes and 1 hour before rinsing with cool water.

Thrifty trick: you can totally make a rinse with your spent tea leaves, or even that cup you meant to drink but forgot and over-steeped. You can even mix your tea with a little coconut oil and make a deep conditioning mask! This is what makes this self care tip super easy – it’s customizable to what kind of tea, and how much energy, you have on hand.

Brunette Hair and Lowlights

Black tea is perfect for brown hair – it adds a natural (and temporary) boost of color and shine to your hair, plus the antioxidants in black tea will strengthen your hair, and the caffeine will naturally stimulate growth!

Red Hair

Like black tea for brunette hair, rooibos tea is a great way to add a natural boost of color and shine to red hair. A rooibos rinse can even help maintain red-dyed hair (which is notoriously hard to maintain).

Blonde Hair and Highlights

Chamomile tea is ideal for blonde hair – it brings out the natural highlights and can even be used to lighten and brighten highlights! For this effect, pour the chamomile rinse through wet hair and dry in a towel for about 10 minutes. Then let your hair air dry and go spend some time in the sun! This is a much healthier alternative to the traditional lemon juice treatment.

Green Tea Rinse for Hydration

No matter what your hair type, rinsing with green tea is super nourishing. The vitamins found in green tea (like vitamins B, E and C, can help collagen production and hydrate your locks. And like black tea, the antioxidants will strengthen your hair and the caffeine will help it grow! This is another leave in rinse – no need to wash out.

Self care is so important, even when you don’t have a ton of energy or money to spend. So use whatever tea you have on hand and give your hair a quick and easy treat! Let us know in the comments if you gave this a try, or tag us on social!
