Shaken Matcha Cocktail – Tipsy Tea Time

Shaken Matcha Cocktail

You all know how much we love matcha and cocktails, so it’s obvious we love a matcha cocktail. This particular drink, a shaken Matcha cocktail, is a new favorite of ours, partially because it’s so fancy, and partially because it’s a fresh take on all our fav ingredients in a classic margarita or pisco sour. This drink features a creamy, frothy egg white foam which really compliments the earthiness of the matcha. Plus, it’s easy to make and looks so sophisticated!

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 oz tequila blanco
  • 1/4 tsp Matcha
  • 1 oz simple syrup (for a low sugar version, try a simple syrup made with our monkfruit sweetener!)
  • 1 oz lime juice
  • 1 egg white

Directions:

  1. Mix the matcha with the tequila in a bowl and whisk until smooth.
  2. Pour lime juice, simple syrup and the matcha mix into a shaker. Add the egg white and dry shake all the ingredients. (For those of us who didn’t know what “dry shaking” was until we made this drink, it just means shaken without ice.)
  3. Add ice and then shake again (aka a wet shake). Strain into the glass and let foam settle on top.
  4. We like to sift a tiny bit of matcha of the top for a pretty finish, or you could garnish with a wedge of lime or peel.

If you’re feeling extra fancy, try substituting the tequila for pisco, a Peruvian or Chilean (depending on who you ask) brandy made from wine grapes. The drink featured above was inspired by margaritas and pisco sours, another classic though less widely known cocktail. The pisco sour is made just as above, minus the matcha and with pisco as opposed to tequila. If you invest in a bottle of pisco, give this drink a try!

We hope you give this new shaken matcha cocktail a try! Leave a comment below and let us know what you think, and as always, tag us on social with all your bright green cocktails!
