Herbal tea isn’t made from the tea plant at all.
Every other guide in this series starts with Camellia sinensis, the plant behind black, green, white, and chai. Herbal tea skips it entirely. It’s a tisane: an infusion of flowers, fruit, herbs, and roots, with zero caffeine no matter what’s inside. That’s why our herbal blends range from a chamomile-lavender wind-down to a hibiscus hydration blend to a four-herb sleep formula.
Not a tea type. Not even tea.
“Herbal tea” is a bit of a misnomer. Technically it’s a tisane: an infusion of pretty much any edible flower, fruit, herb, or root except Camellia sinensis, the one plant every black, green, white, and chai blend traces back to. No tea plant means no caffeine, ever, in anything we call herbal. What changes from blend to blend is which part of which plant you’re steeping.
Flowers
Chamomile, lavender, and butterfly pea flower bring the floral base to blends like Chamomile Sunset and Dream Come Blue.
Fruit
Hibiscus, freeze-dried pineapple, and strawberry add tang and natural sweetness, the backbone of Jaidrate.
Cooling herbs
Spearmint, lemon balm, and lemongrass give Minty Fresh its clean, bright reset.
Root & adaptogen
Valerian root, skullcap, passionflower, and tulsi bring the deeper, structured calm behind Dream Come Blue.
No single origin. Every ingredient has its own.
Herbal tea doesn’t have one growing region the way black or green tea does. Every ingredient comes from wherever that specific plant grows best. Three origins show up again and again across our herbal blends.
Egypt
Egypt’s warm, dry climate grows both the chamomile in Chamomile Sunset and the hibiscus in Jaidrate.
USA
Domestic lavender, spearmint, lemon balm, and skullcap: the calming backbone behind Chamomile Sunset, Minty Fresh, and Dream Come Blue.
Thailand
Thailand grows the vivid blue butterfly pea flower behind Dream Come Blue’s color and calm.
Water this hot, for this long.
Every Moody herbal blend steeps the same basic way: 1 teaspoon per 8 oz of water. With no caffeine to worry about over-extracting, exact timing matters less than with black or green tea, so steep to taste within the range below.
Hot
Heat water to 200–212°F and steep for 3–6 minutes, depending on the blend. Chamomile and mint like the higher end near boiling; hibiscus and the sleep blend do well a touch cooler.
Iced
Steep 2 teaspoons in 8 oz of hot water for the same time as the hot method, then pour over ice.
Cold steep
Add ½ ounce of tea (about 4 tablespoons) per 64 ounces of cold water. Refrigerate 8–12 hours for a smooth, gently sweet cup.
Four tisanes, four very different reasons to steep one.
Chamomile Sunset
Chamomile, lavender, rosehips, and orange peel, with a touch of freeze-dried pineapple for brightness. Caffeine-free and built for easing out of the day.
Minty Fresh
Spearmint, lemon balm, lemongrass, and ginger. Crisp, clean, and steady. Caffeine-free and built for a mental reset, not a candy-cane punch.
Dream Come Blue
Butterfly blue pea flower and lavender with passionflower, tulsi, skullcap, and valerian root. Structured support for falling asleep and staying asleep.
Jaidrate
Hibiscus, pineapple, strawberry, orange peel, and ginger. Caffeine-free and built to support hydration with bold, tropical flavor.
Transcendence
Butterfly pea flower, rooibos, spearmint, and vanilla, caffeine-free and color-changing from blue to purple with a squeeze of citrus. A portion of every sale supports mutual aid efforts.
